Scott Medlock (1968- )

Renowned for its impeccable craftsmanship and subtle touches of imagination, Scott Medlock's art invites viewers to enter into the heart of athletic competition. "I want to capture a moment in time," says Medlock, "but I equally want to keep an element of mystery in the work so that viewers use their own imagination to complete it." Medlock's meticulous attention to detail is balanced by his artful depictions of athletic movement, drawn from his own experiences as an athlete as well as from keen observation of his subjects.

Medlock was born in Glendale, California and earned a B.F.A. from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. While still a student, Medlock received his first commission to paint a sports figure-the winner of the Los Angeles Open. Since then, Medlock has created over four hundred sports-related portraits.

In 1995, the family of Babe Ruth commissioned Medlock to create a work commemorating Ruth's historic farewell address at Yankee Stadium. He created a series of paintings as an official artist for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. Medlock's portrait of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Ben Hogan was used as an official poster and art piece for the 1998 U.S. Senior Open.
